        How Do I Begin?

If you have never done pilates before and want to try it, I recommend you begin with the Introductory Package. In 3 private lessons you get a complete postural analysis, health history review, core and peripheral muscle stregth test, check for diastasis recti (following pregnancy), review of pilates mat fundamentals, and an introductory workout on the pilates equipment.  From this, I assess your strength and develop a customized workout program for you, to be done either here, in a private or group setting, or at home.

Other studios may start you out quicker, but you may just get a "cookie cutter" routine.  I take time to get to know you, and find out what's most appropriate for your needs.  More than anything, I hope to teach you about how to move your body, what you are doing correctly, and what you need to be doing differently.  I base this on sound principles of anatomy, and 30+ years of experience in the dance world.

I know money's tight right now, so if you are going to spend it, shouldn't you spend it on the best possible workout you can get for you, and not just another cookie?

        NEW! RENT-A-REFORMER

Are you experienced working out on the pilates reformer?  Do you wish you had one in your house and could workout on one whenever it suited your schedule? Well, I have a new option just for you.  It's called "Rent a Reformer".

You will be able to reserve a reformer online, and come in and do your own* workout, all for the introductory price of $20!  Yes - you read it correctly - $20 for a reformer workout.  Restrictions do apply - you must have done at least 30 private or partner lessons on the pilates equipment, you must take a reformer safety test, and instructor approval before you begin.  But then you will be able to come in whenever you like** and workout.

*video-tapes, dvds,  and a tv with VHS/DVD will be provided for you to follow.
**Subject to availibility and instructor hours.  Instructor must be onsite for the entirety of your desired workout time.

        Class Descriptions

        Open Level Pilates Mat Class
For students who are familiar with Pilates, this class covers the basic foundations and warm-ups, then takes you through a challenging workout that focuses on correct alignment while strengthening your core. Can use small props to increase difficulty.

        Introduction to Pilates Mat
This class is for the absolute pilates beginner.  We review core anatomy, function, planes of movement, correct breathing, and slowly work out way through the basic exercises.  Best done in a workshop series - look for this class to be offered as a special small group class.

        Pilates Mat for Back Care
This special class is offered to those who suffer from chronic low-back pain. Taught by studio owner Marilyn Miller, you will learn how weak abdominals contribute to your pain, what muscles are weak and which are strong, and what you need to do to correct this imbalance so you can live without chronic pain.

        Fix Your Feet
Do you have chronic foot pain? Have you been diagnosed with Plantar Faciitis or fallen arches? Do you have bunions? Have you been told you need surgery or orthotics? Then this class is for you.  Current research shows that limiting the mobility of our feet in sturdy tight shoes all day leads to atrophy of the muscles and dysfunction.  This class takes you through small and basic exercises in a non-gravitational plane to help you start to wake up the muscles of the arches and the toes.  Easy stretches work out chronic tension, which in term helps with balance and gait.  Don't wait for the Doctor to tell you to have surgery - FIX YOUR FEET NOW!

        Level I - Reformer
        :

For students who are new to the pilates reformer, this class combines basic mat-work with basic reformer work so you begin to learn the choreography of the reformer.  Care is taken to make sure you are keeping the correct form, and the class progresses based on the level and ability of the participants.

        Level II - Reformer:
For students who are familiar with the reformer and have done both mat and reformer work before.  This class begins to challenge you in more complex full-body movements that require greater focus, concentration, and strength.
Prerequisite: Level I reformer and mat

        Level III -Reformer
Now we start to challenge your coordination, the control of your deep abdominal muscles, and your strength, while still focusing on the concentration, breathing and flow of the movements.  More exercises are done in a kneeling position, and we begin to do some standing ones.
Prerequisite: Level II Reformer and Mat

        Level IV - Reformer
In this level we pick up the pace, do fewer reps but more exercises, and begin to make the workout a full and comprehensive class from start to finish.  We will incorporate some inversions and standing balance work.
Prerequisite - Level III reformer and mat

        Adult Beginning Ballet:
Want the long and lean look of a dancer's body? Then you should do a real dancer's workout.  Many studios are offering a "fitnessized" version of a ballet class, but it's not the same.  As a retired professional ballerina, I offer a real class, with music, shoes, etc. So, if you have ever wanted to learn the basics of ballet, or took it years ago and would like to do it again, then this is the class for you. What I love about ballet is it is a whole body workout without weights.  Great for balance and coordination, mental acuity, memory, and just plain fun. This class is a great adjunct to your pilates mat.

        Gentle Vinyassa Flow

This class incorporates all that you love about a Vinyassa class, with some added meditation and breathing exercises.  Find your mental center while building your core and expanding your flexabiity. Excellent for balance and stability.  Good for beginners or those new to yoga.

        Intermediate Yoga:
This class ads more difficult poses and has a quicker pace than the Gentle Flow.  Strong focus on concentration, placement and connection to the core. Work up a sweat while opening your mind to the beauty around you.
